To some, the concept of fun may seem childish and not very aduilt-like however the exact opposite holds true. The positive upside of fun are plentiful and the science reveals to behind it tells us that fun isn't and shouldn't be seen as something that we exclusively reserve for children.
There are some major benefits to injecting fun or subjective well being (in academia terms) into our lives on a regular basis and we really should be finding ways to do so as much as possible instead of being consumed with the more stressful, not so enjoyable "adult stuff".
Here are some of the immediate benefits of fun:
- Reduces stress
- Helps increase serotonin levels
- Boosts energy
- Improves ability to cope
- Improved memory and concentration
- Improved connection to others
- Improved sleep patterns
- Increases levels of positivity
“It's very much an action oriented approach. So as long as you're not looking to one up the next thing, you can always interject fun activities and once you have a bias towards fun, that sort of becomes your modus operandi.”
